One process for every screen your office retires
STS Electronic Recycling provides R2v3 certified processing for CRT and LCD monitors retired by businesses, schools, and institutions nationwide. Every unit is logged, transported under chain-of-custody documentation, and issued a Certificate of Destruction on completion, whether it ships alone or alongside a broader hard drive destruction and IT asset refresh. Monitor turnover like this is routine across corporate offices, K-12 and higher-ed IT departments, healthcare systems, and government agencies replacing displays at scale.

Why Choose STS for Monitor Recycling
Cathode ray tube (CRT) monitors typically contain leaded glass, originally used to shield users from x-ray emissions, and many older LCD monitors used mercury-vapor backlighting. The U.N.'s Global E-Waste Monitor 2024 puts discarded screens and monitors at 5.9 million metric tons worldwide in 2022, down from 6.7 million tons in 2019 as lighter LED panels replace CRT displays in the waste stream. Under EPA's 2006 final rule amending the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (40 CFR Parts 9, 260, 261, and 271; effective January 29, 2007), a CRT is defined in part as "the glass video display component of an electronic device," and used CRTs and CRT glass sent for recycling are managed under specific handling conditions rather than as ordinary waste.

What businesses ask first about monitor recycling
Everything you need to know about recycling CRT and LCD monitors with STS.
Do you recycle both CRT (tube) and LCD monitors?
Yes. We process older cathode ray tube (CRT) monitors as well as LCD, LED, and touchscreen flat-panel displays, along with all-in-one computer displays.
Do monitors need data destruction?
Most standalone monitors don't store data. Under NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 2 guidance, sanitization applies to media that stores data, so smart or networked displays with embedded storage are logged and processed under the same chain-of-custody documentation used for our IT asset disposition (ITAD) services.
What happens to the leaded glass in old CRT monitors?
CRT monitors typically contain leaded glass. Under EPA's 2006 final rule for cathode ray tubes (40 CFR Parts 9, 260, 261, and 271), used CRTs and CRT glass sent for recycling are managed under specific handling conditions rather than as ordinary waste.
Can we get a Certificate of Destruction for monitors?
Yes. Every processed device is logged, and a Certificate of Destruction documenting the device, date, and sanitization method (where applicable) is issued on completion, whether monitors ship alone or as part of a larger computer and server retirement.
Do you offer free pickup for monitor recycling?
Yes, for qualifying business volumes. Call or email us with your monitor count and location to check eligibility.
What documentation is provided?
You'll receive a Certificate of Destruction where applicable, plus a summary report itemizing the monitors and related equipment processed.
